Removing the Page Number from the First Page of a Document
You may have noticed in the countless papers you've reviewed in your lifetime that many documents don't contain a page number on the first page. The thinking here is, when you're starting to read a document, you probably already know you're on page one, right? A page number here could be seen as insulting your reader's intelligence, and you don't want to do that. So, remove that page number from the first page.

First, go to File, Page Setup and click the Layout tab. Next, select the Different First Page check box. From the Apply To menu, select Whole Document, then click OK.
