Using Sound Accessibility Options
If you are hearing impaired, you probably already use SoundSentry or ShowSounds to alert you to events normally conveyed by sound. In fact, anyone who would prefer to receive visual notification of Windows events might try using one of these programs.

Go to Start, Control Panel and select Accessibility Options. Click the Sound tab, and check either the SoundSentry or ShowSounds box.

SoundSentry causes part of your screen to flash whenever a sound is made (you can configure the part of the screen that flashes by using the options on the Settings tab. Make sure to choose either Flash Active Caption Bar or Flash Active Window, so you'll know which application made the sound).

ShowSounds displays a small caption that stands in for the Windows sound. When you've selected one of these options, click OK.
