Have you ever lost your Windows NT 4.0 desktop icon arrangement after Explorer has hung up? When you exit Windows NT normally, the desktop locations are saved. However, Windows NT doesn't continually save the icons like it does in Windows 9x for performance reasons. So if you get an abnormal shutdown, you can lose the icon position. To make sure you don't lose the icon position, you can periodically click the desktop to give it the focus, then press F5, which forces an immediate desktop save.
