If you're working with an application and need to open the current user's folder, click Start, Run. Type in a single period (.) and press Enter. This will open the current user's folder, usually in D:\Documents and Settings\{User Name}.
If you need to be one level above that, in C:\Documents and Seetings, type 2 periods (..) in the Run dialog. If you want to open My Computer, type 3 periods (...) in the Run dialog.
