An Open and Closed Case
If you'd like to open Explorer with no expanded drives or folders, you need to check this out. You can open My Computer in Explorer view. Place an Explorer shortcut on your desktop, and right-click the shortcut and choose Properties. When Properties opens, click the Shortcut tab. Click in the Target entry box and type

C:\Windows\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Click OK to close the dialog box and save your addition. Now double-click the shortcut, and you'll get an Explorer view of My Computer--with none of the folders expanded.
