From Windows 98 to Windows NT

Our first-ever NT tip discussed how to make the move From Windows 95 to Windows NT. This time we're going to talk about going from Windows 98 to Windows NT. The procedure isn't very different from the Win95 tip, but there is a new concern, and that's FAT32.

If your Windows 98 installation uses the 16-bit FAT system, you could easily install Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on a separate partition of the new hard disk. And if you also install NT on a FAT16 partition, all drives and OS's will coexist peacefully and be able to use the other's disk space.

But if Windows 98 is running FAT32, the two OS's won't be able to "see" each other, or use each other's disk partition since NT can't see FAT32 partitions (yet), and if you decide to install Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on an NTFS partition, note that the partition will not be visible in Windows 98.
