TP-LINK AV500 Gigabit Powerline Adapter Kit -TL-PA511KIT
TP-LINK AV500 Mini Powerline Adapter

It “just works” right out of the box. Within a minute of setup you can be online. This has been my experience with most TP-Link products. No hassle. No grey hairs. No nail biting. It just works like it says it should. Thought has gone into the design. The AV500 uses a tiny button on each unit to pair the network with a secure connection. Plug the Ethernet cable into the first unit and the other line into your Wireless access point or router. Press the pairing plug. Then plug the other unit into an AC plug at any location in your house. Go the other another location where you need internet access and plug that unit into the wall. Press the little button. Within two minutes you should have a bounding internet connection coming through your power outlets. You’ll see a blinking green, orange or red an indication your speed. (If you see just a solid light you’re both probably not getting a live connection. You’ll need a unit for each discreet location around the house. I tested in a house with older construction. I had also tested TP-LINK AV Mini Powerline Adapter Starter Kit several months prior. “The TL-PA411KIT provides users with stable, high-speed data transfer rates of up to 500Mbps on a line length of up to 300 meters. It combines built-in Qos and AES encryption, which creates a whole home solution to connect all network compatible devices--from computers and game consoles to set-top boxes for IPTV to printers and NAS hard drives. “
Not only was this unit faster, but it was wiser. The standby mode saved electricity when not in use. You could feel less heat coming from the unit which I’m sure translates to less money going to the power company.
Placement of the units in various rooms that caused problems with other Powerline models was not a problem for TP-LINK AV500 (TL-PA511KIT). The AV500 seems to have better technology for noise suppression without compromising speed.
Among the uses we found were: creating an Ethernet connection for a VOIP phone in another room, using the wall unit to power TP Links TL-WR700N 150Mbps Wireless N Mini Pocket Router which extended the wireless network in our challenging wall construction where the signal usually gets clipped thus avoiding installation of special antenna systems to see around the walls. The unit was also used to power up a Blue Ray player for Netflix as well powering a Dish network box. (Which worked with the android Dish App). Previous versions of the app had problems with some powerline configurations.
One of the things you want to avoid is plugging a unit into a power strip. Power strips or extremely noisy and can degrade a signal enough to ruin the Internet connection.
