Quick Disable for CD AutoPlay

AutoPlay is a Windows 95 feature that automatically senses when you have inserted an audio CD or a data CD that is compatible with AutoPlay, like the Windows 95 CD for instance. This feature can be turned on or off by following these steps:

* Go into Device Manager (right-click "My Computer" and choose "Properties" or go to Control Panel and double-click "System")

* Click the Device Manager tab

* Click the entry named "CD-ROM"

* When the branch expands, highlight the CD device and click the "Properties" button

* Click the "Settings" tab and look for the checkbox named "Auto Insert Notification"

Leaving this setting turned on is definitely preferable, but there are times when you may want to override this feature. To disable AutoPlay from automatically playing a CD, hold the Shift key for a few seconds after you close the CD-ROM drive door. When you see the "Busy" light on your CD-ROM go out, it's safe to let go of the Shift key.
