the CD Extras
Missing out on all the CD goodies because you bought the disk set? Things like the Resource Kit? Not to worry, they're readily available from several sources. You can find them on MSN (the Microsoft Network), CompuServe, or Microsoft's Web Server.
From MSN, go to Windows / Windows95 Free Software / Windows 95 CD ROM Extras. There you'll find everything the CD has and you don't! Included are the following sections\folders:
Admin\ Apptools
- SLIP and Scripting support for use with Dial-Up Networking, Tools for utilizing MS-DOS environment variables in Windows, Long-Filename Backup Utility, System Policy Editor, Password List Editor, SLIP support for use with Dial-Up Networking
Admin\ Nettools
- Network Monitor Agent, Server-based Setup, Microsoft Print Agent for NetWare Networks, Microsoft Remote Registry Service, Microsoft RPC Print Provider, Simple Network Management Protocol Agent
FunStuff\ Pictures
- Desktop Wallpapers
FunStuff\ Videos
- Standard and High Performance .AVI files to test your video card
Other\ Other
- WinChat Utility, Microsoft Diagnostics, Old MS-DOS Utilities, ClipBook Viewer Utility, Minitel Support for HyperTerminal, Code Page Utility, Microsoft Word Viewer
Other\ Misc.
- Configuration Backup Utility, Enhanced Printer Troubleshooter, Emergency Recovery Utility, Log File Viewer Utility
If you're a CompuServe member, GO MSWIN95 and look in Library #20 (Win95 Extras). There's even a complete listing in the text file CDEXTRAS.TXT that you can download or read on-line.
Wherever you choose to cruise looking for these files, make sure to look for Microsoft's Powertoys! POWERTOY.EXE is a Windows 95 add-on and a must-have for its file-management contributions alone.
