Windows NT allows you to set up different file systems which in turn give you remarkably different partitioning schemes.

The following table contains the partition and file size limitations of the various file system formats under Windows NT:

See Graphic Below.

For your information: 232 bytes equals 4 gigabytes, 241 bytes equals 2,048 gigabytes, and 264 bytes equals 16 exabytes (or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes). Wow.

NOTE: the HPFS file system (High Performance File System) was first introduced with IBM's OS/2 operating system version 1.2. It was eventually incorporated into Windows NT versions 3.1, 3.5 and finally 3.51. It is no longer available in NT 4.0.
