Don't always trust the status bar
Many users like to use the status bar at the bottom of all Explorer views to see the file size of individual files or groups of selected files (check under View, Status Bar if it isn't turned on). Too bad it doesn't work if you've selected a folder or two in the group.
So how can you tell how much disk space is occupied by this mixed group of items? Easy. Select any individual folder or any combination of files and folders, then right-click and select Properties. Instant total size of all files AND folders, including everything contained within.
