ActiveX documents
Internet Explorer also provides support for ActiveX documents. This means that you can view documents such as Microsoft Office files right in Internet Explorer, without starting another program, such as Microsoft Word.

In the case of Office documents, you can edit and save changes right from within Internet Explorer. The familiar Office toolbar becomes a part of the IE interface, adding itself along with IE's own toolbars. You even get an additional IE toolbar icon to toggle your Office Toolbar on or off.
