Need to add a special character to your document? No matter what application you're working in, the Windows 95 Character Map can help you.
Look in your Accessories group for the Character Map icon, and double-click it to open it. Select a font in the drop-down list, double-click the character you'd like to use (to place it in the Characters to copy box), and click Copy. The character is now on the Windows 95 Clipboard. You can even select multiple characters by double-clicking them one at a time, they'll "stack" in the Characters to copy box. Switch back to your document and paste that character wherever you'd like it.
An added feature is that you can click and hold down the left mouse button and drag it over the available characters for a "zoom-in" view of each character. A single-click "zooms-in" on a single character. Additionally, each character has its ASCII keystroke combination displayed on the status bar on the lower right corner. Typing this "speed-key" combination will also place the character into your document. This is very handy if you use the same special characters often, like a copyright [©] or a trademark symbol [™].
If the Character Map applet isn't installed on your system, you can still install it from the CD. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click the Windows Setup tab, click the Accessories group under Components and then click Details. Place a checkmark next to Character Map and click OK twice.
