Automatic Numbered Lists in Word
If you want to have Word generate numbered lists for you, here's how you can stay in control of what type of numbers you get.
If you want standard numbers, enter 1 followed by a period, a space, and your text. You're list will look like this:
1. This is the first line
2. This is the second line
3. This is the third line
Each time you hit Enter at the end of a line, Word will generate the next number. To stop the list numbering, hit Enter twice at the end of the last line.
Would you like to use Roman numerals instead? If so, enter I followed by a period, followed by a space, followed by the text. When you press Enter, the next Roman numeral will appear. It should look like this.
I. This is the first line
II. This is the second line
III. This is the third line
Want to use letters instead of numbers? Type A followed by a period, a space, and text. Like this:
A. This is the first line
B. This is the second line
C. This is the third line
