The Power to Compute
If you compute on the road, then you know that its easy to run out of power if you're not concentrating on your battery levels while the unit is on. And everyone knows that concentrating on your battery levels is much more important than concentrating on your work. Yeah. Right.

To insure against a sudden shutdown, and therefore, loss of data from loss of power, it's a good idea to set up a "Hey, you're low on juice" warning. Double-click the battery indicator in the system tray (the battery--or plug--icon on your taskbar); and then click the check next to Enable Low Battery Warning; and click OK. From then on--depending on your system and how much power you have--you'll get a prompt box giving you some lead time, telling you you're low on power and warning you to save your work.
