Changing the Shortcut Overlay
If you ever wanted to change the arrow over your shortcuts, then you may want to give this a try. It involves using a registry hack; so as always, you'll need to exercise a bit of caution when you work directly with your registry.

To change the overlay, try using this short REG file. To generate it, run Notepad and enter the following as shown. Where you see a blank line, a blank line is required. Its best to copy the file between the two marks and just paste it into Notepad.

*****Begin Copy Below this Line*****
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
"29"="C:\\WINNT\\Icons\\shortcut.ico"

*****End Copy Above this Line*****

Choose File, Save As, and name the file arrow.reg. Find a folder to store the file in and click Save. Now double-click the file's icon to merge its data with the Registry. When you restart the computer, the new overlay will take effect.

If you decide to do this we must caution you that not all overlays are effective.
