Removing the Favorites Menu
A short while ago, we ran a tip on removing the My Document menu from your Start Menu. It involved a registry hack and may have been rather complicated for some.
However, did you know that Windows 2000 allows you to customize your Start Menu? To remove Favorites from your Windows 2000 Start Menu, Choose Start--Settings--Task Bar & Start Menu... When the dialog box comes up, choose the Advanced tab and then uncheck the Display Favorites Settings.
You can do the same in Windows NT 4.0 Workstation too--if you're running Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater. However, it will require a registry hack to do it. As with all registry hacks, you'll need to be careful in running it; and you use it at your own risk. The best way to create it is to run Notepad, and then copy the text between the two lines below. Save it to a file name and location you'll remember and then double click on it to merge it with your registry. A simple log off/ on should take care of things.
