Repair the NT Boot Loader
Did you install Windows 95 or 98 on your Windows NT computer only to find that you no longer have a Boot Loader? Yeah, we know, it wasn't supposed to happen but you know how PC's are. Sometimes you have to expect the unexpected. Well, if you were one of the unlucky ones and you discover your NT Boot Loader is gone, here's how to fix it.
Put the Windows NT Setup disk 1 into drive A and restart the computer. When you're prompted to insert Disk 2, do it. Once Disk 2 has finished loading, you'll see a list of options, one of them will be To repair a damaged Windows NT version 4.0 installation, Press R. Select this option and press Enter to continue.
In the next options screen (shown below), four options will appear. Eliminate all the options but Inspect boot sector. You do this by using the UP or DOWN arrow keys, then press Enter to select or deselect the options. Make sure the only option with an X in front of it is Inspect boot sector, then select Continue and press Enter. You can probably skip mass storage device detection, so press S at the next screen. Insert Disk 3 when prompted. If you have an Emergency Repair Disk, press Enter, insert the disk, and then press Enter again. If you do not have an Emergency Repair Disk, press Esc. This will allow NT to look for repair information. When you restart, you should have the Boot Loader back.
