Y2K Issues
With the recent release of NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, comes some confusion about Y2K compatibility issues since Microsoft released different versions of the Service Pack. (For the sake of this tip, we're assuming; Intel Platform, International English, 40-bit.) One is the "Traditional" Service Pack while the other, the "Year 2000" Service Pack, contains all of the required Y2K fixes. The difference in file size alone is considerable. So what are the differences?
The Traditional Download (approx. 33Mb) installs all fixes for Windows NT and Windows NT Option Pack.
The Year 2000 Service Pack 4 (approx. 76Mb) includes the Traditional Download and also detects and upgrades Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.0 Service Pack 1, and/or Site Server Express 3.0 (if earlier versions exist on the system) to resolve known Year 2000 issues on your Windows NT 4.0 system.
So, which one do you need? Or, if you already downloaded and installed the "Traditional" Service Pack, what else might you need? The easiest way to find out is to download the Year 2000 Service Pack 4 Inspection Utility. It's only about a 35Kb download, and it will inspect your configuration and tell you if you're Y2K compliant, and if not, what you need to make it so.
In order to be absolutely sure you are Y2K compliant, you actually have two options:
- Option 1 - download and install all three:
- Option 2 - download and install:
The Microsoft NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 (Year 2000) actually contains all three of the Service Packs contained in Option 1, hence the 76Mb download.
