Add a COM port in NT
If you need to add a communication port to your computer, remember that Windows NT 4.0 is not a plug-and-play system. This means that you'll have to tell the system about your new port.

Let's say you've just plugged in a new serial card set to COM 3. The next thing to do is click Start, Settings, Control Panel. When Control Panel opens, double-click the Ports icon. Now click Add and add the new COM port. Click Settings and choose the appropriate setting for your new card. When you're finished, click Close and restart the computer.
